Tree Care Guidelines

Colorado Blue Spruce:

At Planting
-
Water deeply right after planting (12–18" deep soak).
-
Fall planting, follow initial "Spring" watering guidelines, focusing on a deep soak to encourage deeper root growth. Shallow watering will encourage only top roots growth.

Seasonal Watering Calendar

Spring (Apr–Jun)
First 14 days: deep water every 1–2 days.
Days 15–30: every 2–3 days.
After 1 month: every 5–7 days.Check soil first; adjust for rain.

Summer (Jul–Aug)Deep water every 5–7 days.
Sandy soil: every 4–5 days.More frequent during heat waves & wind.

Fall (Sep–Oct)Reduce to every 10–14 days.Give final deep soak before freeze-up.

Winter (Nov–Mar)Although exctremely uncommon... Water once per month on warm days above 0 °C if no snow cover & soil is unfrozen.Helps prevent winter desiccation.

Mulching
-
Apply 2–3 inches of mulch over root zone, extending just past the 'drip-line' of the tree branches.
-
Keep 2–3 inches away from trunk.
-

Soil Check Method
-
Insert finger 2–3 inches deep into soil:
-
Cool & damp → skip watering.
-
Dry & crumbly → water deeply.
